We camped at Consultation Lake on Monday as well. Were you the group we spoke to with the two 1-man tents?

s_kavert, Yep, my friend and I were there on Monday and Tuesday night with the two yellow/black Eureka tents. Were you in the group of 4 on the upper section? Monday night there many more people at CL.

The following 3 links break up our trip to Mt. Whitney. Four nights and five days of camping and backpacking, and four days of hiking, was a most memorable experience for me – these photos tell the story. I hope you enjoy them.

The first day (Saturday July 31st) we drove up to Horseshoe Meadows campground to begin acclimation at elevation 10,000’, located south of Whitney Portals. We stayed there two nights and two days. On Sunday, August 1st, we hiked up to nearby Trail Peak at 11,605’.

On Monday, August 2nd, morning we packed it up and headed over to Whitney Portals to begin our backpacking journey. The plan was to hike up about half way to Whitney and set up our base camp at Consultation Lake at about 12,000’, then day hike up to Mt. Whitney on Tuesday, August 3rd.

On Tuesday, August 3rd, we started our trek to Mt. Whitney, the highest peak in the lower 48 states at 14,505’ elevation, the air gets a little thinner. I also planned to hike up to a neighboring peak, Mt. Muir at 13,983’, but there is no trail for this peak, and it involves Class 3 rock climbing. Right as I got back down from the rock climb to Mt. Muir my camera battery died, so no more photos, but I think I captured everything important that I wanted to.
