On my way up the Main Trail in June I noticed thousands of dead ladybugs, flies and moths peppering the snow around trailside meadow (or what would have been trailside meadow if it wasn't just a snow slope). Does anyone know what causes this phenomenon? Does this happen everywhere in the Sierra's or just Mt. Whitney?

My first guess was just that these bugs were all the ones that died in the winter and as the snow melted they stayed in place as the water filtered down through the snow pack leaving the bugs at the top and that the cold temperatures keep them from decaying.

Anyway, if anyone has answers I'd be excited to hear em'.
