Question: What's the best plan for carrying/refilling water during late season dayhikes?

I'm heading up on 10/16 and want to know the best spots for refilling water. I understand some of the usual springs around Trail Crest may be frozen this time of year

If this sounds like a rookie question, there's a good reason for that.

I can't speak for today, but as of one week ago the last water was at Trail Camp. The spring on the switchbacks was non-existent in the morning and a trickle in the afternoon. That said, the recent storm brought snow which can be readily converted to water smile

Thanks. I was worried about the spring by the switchbacks (not at Trail Crest as stated in my original post).

Richard P and his group have a big trip tomorrow. I'm interested in hearing how they refill and stash water along the way. Sounds like they have water management down to an art. Hopefully I can learn a few things from other's experience.

Yes, walk at a pace that keeps you from sweating...

I usually fill up at the Rockwell's Finest Spring down in Bighorn Part (1 liter) and then refill in the stream above, or at, Trailside Meadow on the way down.

I am considering Langley for the same date (16th). Does anyone have info on water on that hike. (I have only done Whitney before, not Langley)

Lots of water in the streams and lakes of the Cottonwood Basin. Just make sure you have enough before the last push - whether it be via New Army or (Old) Army Pass - as there's no water above those lakes. By then you'll be within 2 miles of the summit if you go via (Old) Army Pass; 3 if you use New Army.
