Hi Well you know you get those letters around Christmas all the great things "they have done" the past year or even today this isn't one of those , we put the boards on the windows drove to town and did the last 6 months of wash, went to two meeting in Bishop and found out the truck transmission was just like I thought a work of art by another great American company and I was lucky to get the first production with some knock off parts from China they may be able to fix it again.

More people in the Portal this week than the last three weeks . Almost hot , The pond overflowed from the melt last week so I took a few board out . The clearing is moving forward very well , should help with the bear problem and save the Portal if we have a fire down canyon .

We had talked with a map company last summer about a new product , it is a raised relief map of the Southern Sierra , they came yesterday very well done and the print is near paint qulity. The Company is Summit Terragraphics , we sell them and A -16 should have them in stock now .

I got a clipping from a newspaper article a lady sent about her hike to the summit in August . The write-up of the trip stands out as one of the best published , she covers the year it took to get ready , the things that she had as fears and the efforts she and her son took to plan the trip. The paper is the Canton Independent- Sentinel/Troy Gazette Register Canton Pa article date 23 Sept. 2010 Her name is Pat Kirkowski and son John she wrote the article .

A guy just walked in a ask about showers , after the shower he says look at a web site to see a mural he had just finished in Alaska his name is Arnie Weimer and the link is to a TV Station that did a story about it KATH TV Juneau Alaska (I hope it has clothes on)

So another summer is closing down and had many great talks with folks from all over the globe. Stay safe and if you are passing Lone Pine stop at the Hostel. Thanks the Portal Crew

Doug, it makes me sad to know that the WPS is boarded up and shut down for another winter - but we can now begin the countdown to the 2011 season! Thank you for all you do for the Whitney community. Looking forward to another fantastic time out there with the family next summer!

Hi Doug,

The Adventure 16 in Costa Mesa closed and all of their other locations are not close to me, plus A-16 does not have an online store so getting the new map from A-16 is out of the question for now.

Can I buy from the Whitney Portal Store online?

I found the following map online. Is this the map you are speaking about?

3D Orbital Image Map -- Southern Sierra
This wall map shows the Southern Sierra Nevada Mtns and desert valleys in stunning 3D detail, as though you were looking down from space on a clear day. The high-resolution satellite image is draped over the precisely molded 3D terrain shape, showing the beauty of the mountains, valleys, and deserts. The map covers from Yosemite and Mammoth down to Bakersfield and Mojave, including the highest Sierra peaks and Mt. Whitney. Key towns, mountain ranges/peaks, valleys, and deserts are labeled for easy reference. Hikers, backpackers, naturalists, and all outdoor enthusiasts will value this amazing 3D wall map. These 3D Orbital Image maps are available as unframed or framed (black aluminum, oak-finish wood, or walnut-finish wood). See and buy these maps at Adventure 16 stores in Southern CA..
Size: 30” tall x 20” wide
$39.95 unframed
$79.95 framed (black metal frame)
$89.95 framed (oak-finish frame)
$94.95 framed (walnut-finish frame)
