Had the privelage to climb Mt Whitney via the Mt Whitney trail with my 22 year old daughter on Sept 22-23. We Stayed one night at portal and the second at Cosiltation lake. Summited wed Sept 22. Took about 4 hrs to get to the top from trail camp and spent 45 mins enjoing our quest. Storm was coming so we made a b line to trail camp to pick upour gear and head back to portal.
Things that mede our trip a success , was doing two Baldy summits as well as one San Gergornio trip as well as using 200mg Diamox at portal and up to the summit .
Best three days of my life so far!!
Cannot wait to apply for my 2011 permits.

Congrats on the successful trip (summit or not)! Judging by your eagerness for next year's lottery you are hooked. If you don't get your permit in the lottery (I whiffed the last two times frown ) there are too many trails and summits in the Sierras to mention that will be just as fun and rewarding as Whitney.

Congrats Tom!!!! Be careful it sounds like you may have been bitten by the Mountain Bug laugh

Just one comment on the Diamox. You may want to do some research on this. 200 mg is a high dose. If you're going to use it maybe try a small dose 62.5 mg (or half that twice a day).

Thanks Cindy, Yea my taste buds were wrecked for three days. My daughter was priscribed by her doc on the diomox and said the 200 mg would be a sure deal we would not have any allitude sickness. He was right but man I was peeing major (lol) and didnt want to eat or drink. Had to force myself to eat and take water. Next trip I will forgo the drugs and trust my pre summit work. Lost 9.4 lbs in three days and prob alot from just not liking any food. Tasted like Crap.. Funny now that we were jonesing for a big ass burger and beer at portal, but they were closed by the time we made it down. So pissed...Mc Donalds in lone pine was not good.... Next time we will desend to do one of those Major Burgers and a few brews..
