Due to medical reasons I wont be rock climbing anymore. I have an assortment of gear but I dont really feel like selling it. Does anyone have any suggestions for the best way to donate it to someone who could really use it and appreciate it ?
Not in the picture are two pairs of rock shoes, two ropes, a almost new harness and lots of carabiners.

Have you considered donating it to a boy scout or other youth group? You could probably get a tax deduction out of a donation to a 501(c)3, along with helping out youth who are interested in learning climbing.

HOW ABOUT DONATING TO BOB R AND THE CHINA LAKE SEARCH AND RESCUE? I THINK THAT WOULD QUALIFY ALSO AS A TAX DONATION AND CERTAINLY WOULD GO TO A WORTHY CAUSE.

DITTO - DITTO - DITTO - Donate it to either of the above. You would get a good Tax write off if you get it directly to the organization. OR, you could auction it on eBay to the charity of your choice through "MissionFish".

I think that one good use for some of your gear is to put your ropes up as fixed ropes on routes that have old static ropes up already (like last 400' section of Mtneers route). I don't know what the condition of the one is that is up there now, but I am sure that if it is on the old/worn side, someone on this post would be more than happy to take one of yours up to replace it. You might also consider giving the ropes and beaners to a guide in the area (maybe Kurt?), with the intent to use them as replacements on routes that already have accepted fixed ropes or rap stations.

You may enjoy knowing that your gear will give someone a firm hold when they need it?
Just an idea.

If you're still interested in giving away the gear, consider donating to the the Caltech Alpine Club. It's a large, active group of mostly poor undergrads and grad students who don't have their own racks yet. We have a big selection of gear which is free to rent for affiliates and friends of affiliates; the gear includes snowshoes, tele skis, XC skis, axes, crampons, avy beacons, shovels, probes, a rock rack, GPS, stove, and tents. We have to grub around for gear through grants and donations, though, and that list of nice stuff came from lots of grant work and some generous donations. We're still lacking in the rack department, so let me know if you wanna... Here's our site: alpine.caltech.edu.

If search and rescue can use the gear, though, I'd rather see it go to them, though.

Hi, I would be interested, I am just getting more seriously into rock climbing and am a student so can't really afford a rack.

Sent a pm, thanks.

If you haven't already, donate it to a SAR group.
That would benefit many, instead of just one!
