This has nothing to do with Mt. Whitney, but I thought somebody would have information about Pear Lake ski hut in Sequoia. I'm planning a snowshoe trip there in February. Does anybody know how hard it is to reserve a spot in the ski hut? Has anybody here been there this year?

I think people post updates and conditions on the wall from time to time. The lottery for reservations was in November. Here is the link to availability calendar.

Been there several times on skis and snowshoes. It can get pretty crowded on weekends but 3 of us had it all to ourselves on a weeknight. The surrounding area is also great for exploring. The hut has an indoor vault toilet and a pellet stove. When the hut is full of people and the stove is running full bore the top bunks can get very warm as the heat rises.

The route there is pretty straightforward and there should be a good track unless you go right after a storm. There is also a marked trail in the trees. Avalanche danger is minimal so long as you stay on the route. There was an avalanche fatality in the area but off the route a few years ago so do be careful:

Have fun, it's a great experience!!!
