This is a long shot, but I'll go ahead and ask anyway.

I applied for an overnight permit for Whitney and got one (after being rejected the last 2 years). After we applied, our family ended up with an unchangeable scheduling conflict on the days for which we got a Whitney permit (Thurs-Fri, July 28-29). It's a permit for 4 people.

Is there anyone who received an overnight Whitney permit for 4 (or even 2?) who would be interested in swapping dates for the dates I have?

Yes, I'm sure there are plenty of people who didn't get a permit who would like it, but I'd prefer to swap dates. I would do this officially through the Whitney permit office.

Happy hiking, everyone.

I am afraid you will be unable to swap permits.

Interesting, I have a similiar situation in that I have conflicting dates and no alternative.
I have a 2 person permit for entry at NF of LPC, Sept. 16 - 19.
If anyone would like to swap permits, same entry point, for a date in August through early Sept - lets talk!

Per lottery instructions "Reservations are not transferable to other parties or to future years. Reservations are not for re-sale."

So, why not do it the right way and release your unusable dates? Open spots are available at the end of April so you and other people have a shot at these open dates. If you keep them and do not release the dates someone will lose out. That could even include you.

Just a thought...

Walt:

I understand that permits are not transferrable... and for good reason.

I'm simply wanting to pre-arrange with someone else so that we can cancel our permits through the Whitney office at the same time and then request the dates that are made open by the other party.

Hi, we didn't "win" our numerous dates applied for during August.

Our goal was to camp 2 nights, first night at Portal and 2nd at High Camp, therefore needed only a 2 day permit.

Any suggestions on how to secure these ahead of time.. flexible dates in August, but we don't want to chance it and end up doing a day hike only...

Thanks for any advice!
