I believe one of the locals (probably Doug) mentioned that the County was schedule to do road maintenance last weekend. Anyone know current conditions?

I assume most of the snow is gone, but I'm wondering if it's now legal to drive up.

I hate to be "that guy" asking about the road, but today I am.

Thanks!

I was up in the middle of March to the Meysan Lake Trailhead Parking area, along with ~5 other cars. At that time, there was a sign and boulders placed along the road to discourage people from going higher. In mid-March, the road was in good shape with very little ice and, for that matter, rock fall..I seen a lot worse of both in years past.

This road closed sign has to be the most ignored sign in North America. However, if they are working up there that is another story entirely.

Hi More large rocks came down last week just before the area where the rock fall is heavy , The County has the new rocks and the very large one marked for blasting ,since these are larger than most years I would expect the road to be secured from any traffic just in case more slide or the blast can not be cleaned shortly after. The snow is off the road to the overflow parking lot but still not cleared to the trailhead. There were no cars on the road or in the campground area yesterday so I think the County is concerned while they work in the area. Thanks Doug

Not even most ignored in California on the Sierra east side. The Bodie road has a locked gate next to a 30 foot wide dirt pull out area. They do provide an additional sign:

The picture is old, $3 doesn't cover it any more.

Hi the County worked on the road all week and should blast the rocks this coming week . Very hot in the Portal today, Doug and I are working on the store doing the patch ups from the winter srorms , we could get the material to the trailhead but the road has not been cleared past the overflow parking lot which is normal for this time of the year. Thanks Doug

As of Friday, the road was clear to the portal, but the road closed sign was still there.
