Mt. Whitney Portal Store & Hostel Forums General Mt. Whitney Portal Store Message Board Celebration on the summit of Whitney on August 4th

My group and I are coming back this summer for our ninth annual summit of Whitney. For me, this will be a special trip, as I am celebrating my retirement from my company after a 32 year career.

Hike day will be August 4th, so if you are up on the summit sometime in the late morning, just look for me and my group. As part of the celebration, I will be carrying a 750mm bottle of Le Grande Dame champagne. This $220.00 bottle of champagne, which will be opened at the summit plaque, will be enjoyed by anyone that wants to have a sip or two. Believe me, at 14,500 feet, a sip is about all that you will want.

After that, it will be back down to the Portal for a Mooseburger and fries, and more celebration in camp. I look forward to seeing many of my Whitney friends either on the summit or back at the Portal. Thank you.

Ah, that was a good date last year too. I stopped by the visitor center on the 3rd and got a permit for the 4th through the cancelations. I had a great day hike to the summit that day, portal to summit in 6 hrs flat. There was barely a breeze on top and I hung out for an hour. Have a great summit day!

Holy cow 32 years for ONE Company, congrats, and 9 Whitney summits ain't shabby either.
