Mt. Whitney Portal Store & Hostel Forums General Mt. Whitney Portal Store Message Board Conditions on East Face & East Buttress

I have a North Fork permit for June 23-25. I'm hoping to do the East Face and East Buttress routes that weekend.

Has anyone been on either route in the last month? I'm anxious about conditions with all this weather.

The East Buttress is dry. The East Face still has snow in the Washboards and the Grand Staircase plus patches elsewhere.

You'll need snow gear (boots, ice axe, crampons) to approach the route and descend the Mountaineer's Route.

Hey tdmorgan79 - can you give me a trip report after you climb the East Face & East Buttress on the 23-24th as we'll be heading up a week or so later and love to hear what you run into

I'm hoping someone out there has climbed either the East Face, East Buttress, or the Mountaineer's Route in the last week or two and can provide some beta on conditions.
