I bought a map at REI, but it is the entire area surrounding Whitney and very small. Is there a map ONLINE out there where the spots like lone pine lake (fork), Bighorn Park, Outpost Camp, Trailside Meadow and Trail camp and Trail Crest are labeled???

The Interagency Visitor center has a gift shop that sells detailed Whitney Zone maps for $2.50. This is the place in Lone Pine where you pick up the permits.

That link worked thank you so much. I don't think I'll be at the visitor's center while they are open.

Here is another map for you, or anyone else:

You can get your own copy here.

I put 40 waypoints on the map and their coordinates are here.

You can easily make your own custom online map with labels.
Here is a map I made with labels on peaks in the Washington State Teanaway area.
http://www.mappingsupport.com/p/gmap4.php?q=https://sites.google.com/site/gmap4files/p/tab/teanaway_peaks_tab.txt&ll=47.388737,-120.916957&t=t2&z=11&label=on

Here is the data file for the above map: https://sites.google.com/site/gmap4files/p/tab/teanaway_peaks_tab.txt

There are 3 steps for making a labeled map:
1. Make a text file with the info you want on the map.
2. Put that data file online anywhere. Google Sites is free.
3. Use Gmap4 to display your map. Include the parameter &label=on in the URL.

These labeled maps use a simple delimited text file. For more info please see:
1. Gmap4 Example maps. http://www.mappingsupport.com/p/gmap4_examples.html Scroll down a bit to the section on delimited text files.
2. Gmap4 Help file. http://www.mappingsupport.com/p/gmap4_help.pdf Search the Help file for: delimited text files

You can use Gmap4 and delimited text files to make both simple and complex maps. Here is a map I made of the Lower Mississippi to help people understand the ongoing flood event:
http://www.mappingsupport.com/p/gmap4.php?q=https://sites.google.com/site/gmap4files/p/news/mississippi_course_change.txt&ll=30.429729,-91.305786&t=h&z=9&label=on&coord=latlng

Here is the data file for this map: https://sites.google.com/site/gmap4files/p/news/mississippi_course_change.txt

Joseph has done a great job with gmap4. One of its quirks -- it is very hands-on/manual -- also turns out to be one of its most valuable features. Learning how to use it is a real tutorial in modern mapping/gps/IT. Well worth the time and effort. Also, for those trying to make sense of a GPS track, such as the SPOT track for the JMT SoBo in the adjacent thread, gmap4 is the tool for putting it on a real map.

thanks for those waypoints/maps baercave & Wayne.

@Joistix
This is not an answer to your question, but just in case:
If you have an android phone, you can check out "Backcountry Navigator" app for Android. The fully functional demo version is free for 2 weeks. You can download the map of the region for free, offline (from MyTopMaps) & load a GPX file of the Mt Whitney trail (you'll get it if you Google for it). It is pretty cool (and doesn't need a wireless network to work, if you have offline maps).
