Well, this is my second attempt at summit this year. Last year, I discovered that I wasn't in as good as shape as I thought I needed to be in terms of the elevation factor and also, my son got AMS. This year, I'm going up with the same team of 6 and we are determined. Only one of the 6 team members have made the summit before. My 15 year old son is eager to share this amazing experience together. These are true life moments.

I'm a little nervous but that's normal. I'm confident and excited and it looks like the weather is going to be favorable as opposed to last weekend. I'm looking forward to meeting great people on the trail. I'm leaving Whitney Portal trailhead on Sunday early AM, August 7 and will base camp at Trail Camp for our summit on Monday, August 8.

See you on the trail,
Kimo

Well, I made it to the summit along with my 15 year old son and four other great team members. What an indescribable experience! We met a solo hiker named Dave (amazingly, we already had two "Daves" on our team so that made it 3 out of 7 total. What a great addition to our team. I absolutely love how common it is for people who enjoy the outdoors always seem to be so refreshing and genuinely good people. All 7 of us made it to the top and we made a new friend. Nice having you along "Vista Dave."

I made it on Thursday (3rd try) with two of my Bakersfield Distance Projecters: Denni & Norma. met a lot great people out there like Lester who had his food stolen from him by a bear and help pace me to the summit, Becky from Bishop who I followed down the switchbacks and many other great people along the way.
