The date has been set October 8th 2011. We will be celebrating Rosabella’s and Tracie’s Birthdays so should be plenty of fun and cake at the Hostel! The main hike will be Mt Whitney via the Main Trail on Saturday October 8th. The start time will be determined by Rosabella and the group’s “fitness” level. I would suggest we be back at the Hostel by 6pm for the Potluck. We will need to firm up a list of members so we can see what people are brining. Last time Doug had a BBQ set up so Hamburgers and Hot Dogs/Sausages are all good! We had someone bring a projector last time to upload some of the day’s pictures which was really cool, volunteers? It’s a 3 day weekend if you get Columbus Day off so Sunday and Monday could be open for hiking peak bagging or climbing. I will bring my climbing stuff if anyone wants to climb in the Alabama Hills.

Need volunteers for Potluck:

Hamburger Meat
Hot Dogs
Other Meats
Soft Drinks, Wine, Beer, etc
Looks Like we will need 2 Birthday Cakes if Tom C and Snow Nymph show up more?
Baked Beans, cole slaw, salad, etc
Left Over Cold Fries from Portal Store?
Speakers and Projector for slide show?

What time to start Whitney Hike for Saturday Morning? I don’t know but I would suggest we be back at Hostel by 6pm. Once again I’m just starting this thread it will EVOLVE!!!

You could always get 1 giant birthday cake from Alabama Hills Cafe & have them simply put

"Happy Birthday to You"

that should cover everyone.

I'll be there with 5-6 family members. Ken (my brother who joined us on the 2009 Thor Hike) will bring a projector and laptop for the slide show. Trailbud Doug did the slideshow for the Thor hike, and I don't remember if he used a screen - I'm thinking that he just projected it onto the wall (?).

We'll be camping for the couple days prior to the hike, and won't really be able to "prepare" anything, but we're good for soft drinks, beer, wine, ground beef, weiners, sausages, buns... whatever. Put us down for things that we can pick up at the local grocery store; we'll pick everything up on Friday, and drop off at the hostel.

Thanks Jeff!

I would like to handle some unfinished business on Lone Pine Peak on Sat. and make the party by 6pm. Will work on Trailbud about handling the slide show if he can get out of his four wheel drive. Let you know tomorrow what I will bring.

Hoping for same set up as last time with laptop and projector as in this pic. I'd bring music but most everyone wouldn't like it except maybe DobeMom.

Norman and I will be there with beer and some sort of pie, laugh

Not sure about the hike yet, I have a commitment the night before in LA... And from past experience, I need sleep (I've been known to sleep on the granites on the side of the trail, blush)... So I may end up just hiking up a bit to meet the folks coming down before the potluck. Norman has a previously scheduled event during the day so he'll drive up with the goodies in afternoon, smile

And yes, will be keeping an eye on the weather... Harness and rock shoes and helmet will be in the car, grin

Can't wait to see everyone!!!!

I would love to join you for the after party at the Hostel. I have a group of 12 I'm taking up the MT for an over night on the 9th and we will be doing a warm up hike on Saturday. Any problem bringing them along? I'll make sure they bring food and drink.

I will be bringing a bbq brisket and rolls. Brisket will be pre cooked sliced, probably use a crock pot to warm it up. Still going to try Lone Pine peak if weather is ok. Could take shots of the Whitney bunch from there.
