Since you shot this late at night maybe it wasn't a factor, but were you concerened with other hikers' headlamps? Or would your bright lantern just have painted over them?

Well, there were other hikers with headlamps on that came down during the shot. However, once the lantern was turned on up at Trail Crest, it was very much apparent that those headlamps wouldn't be a problem. They were blasted away by the brightness of this portable Sun.

I still haven't finalized selling prints directly, but in the few free moments I've managed to get one print framed up and I have loaned it to the Eastern Sierra Interagency Visitor Center in Lone Pine. So, as everyone picks up permits this year I hope you'll take a moment to check out the pic.

I'm sorry I haven't been able to get back about prints just yet. I want the prints to be the same quality as this one was, which is a Fujiflex Crystal Archive print that should easily outlast me and will present the image at its very best. Working 10-12 hours a day 6 days a week hasn't left me with a whole lot of time. Photography isn't how I make my living. I'll post more updates soon but in the meantime there's at least one print you can check out!

Hi Kurt Again great shot , I know hundreds that try to get a photo into the VC so you should be very proud.

Several years ago the print industry had an international contest on quality and saturation of printing, The winner was a life long Whitney family , they come every year and spend 7-10 days . They print most of our photos and postcards. email me if you would want to do a production run whitnestor@aol.com Thanks Doug

Looked again if I could find the count: 1100 lines and 5 Million dpi ! Faust printing.com the site talks about the contest.

This deserves a bump... I've been looking at it since the Quota Season started. It just keeps getting better and better.

Thanks for the bump Richard! I've finally got time off from the grueling day job and am now fully focused on my photography.

I will be posting pricing for prints on my site later tonight and I can also tell you that I have posters and postcards in the works that hopefully will be for sale around the Whitney area in the near future.

Absolutely amazing work Kurt. I don't make a habit of buying other people's photographs, but because of what I fell about the mountain and hour spectacular photo, I look forward to framing it on my wall.

I'm heading up to the Portal Store today to drop off my first group of posters. Some might have noticed that there are already postcards available at the Mount Whitney Portal Store. It's taken a long time to get everything worked out. I'm in the process of getting the necessary permits to sell posters and postcards myself too (have to register with the state for sales tax and whatnot). I'm happy to sell these through the Mount Whitney Portal Store, so come on by and check them out. The poster is 18x24 inches and comes in a tube, and the postcards are standard 4x6. This only my second weekend off from work since July, so it's been really hard to get time away.

Here's a pic of the posters:

Posters are 14.95

And postcards:

Postcards are .93

If anyone happens to be around Fort Wayne, Indiana next month, I have a gallery show that will be there from 9/7 through 10/7 of my photography. I'll be there for the opening reception and then for the Fort Wayne Museum of Art Trolley tour on 9/21. I'll have a huge number of prints there including an 18 by 70 inch panoramic print and an enormous 30x37.5 inch print of the 97 Switchbacks at Night. I hope to have a show out here in California next. This one is in the city of my birth and is my first ever solo gallery show.

In the next week or so I will have an online store setup to buy signed photographic prints as well. I'm doing my best to make things easier. I've found an affordable framer who does a really excellent job and if you want a signed Fujiflex print I'll be happy to get that going now that everything is sorted out. Just send me a message.

Well, it finally arrived, my print of the 97 switchbacks at night, absolutely gorgeous...... unbelievable resolution. The picture that I purchased is exactly the same as the one hanging at the Visitor's Center.

Kurt, thanks for all your help. I'll post a picture of it hanging at my house.

I'm glad you're happy with it Paul! Nice meeting you too. Perhaps will see you on the trail in the not too distant future somewhere.

Here's a pic of the massive 30x37.5" print I have hanging at my gallery show in Fort Wayne, IN right now:

(for comparison the pic to the left is 16x24 and the two on the right are 10x24)
