I just got an Olympus EPM-1 with a 14-42 lens and I'm having trouble finding for a case for it that is suitable for hiking/climbing. The body is not much larger than that of my Panasonic ZS-3 but the lens sticks out about 2.25 inches more than the latter camera. The majority of cases out there for micro 4/3rds cameras assume you are on a trip to Disneyland or something, they tend to be big, bulky, provide room for all sorts of accessories, and have shoulder straps. I need something with interior dimensions of roughly 3" x 4.5" x 3.75". Any suggestions?

Buy the Panasonic Lumix G X Vario PZ 14-42 mm lens smile. It has the same capabilities as your lens but is only 1.1 inch long and almost makes a 4/3 camera into a point & shoot. Of course, you'll have to spend almost $400 to have a lighter camera and the need for a smaller case.

Wow, tempting to get back to size of point-and-shoot, but that's a ton of money. Have to think about that. Meanwhile, I found a case at REI: the MountainSmith Zoom-S. Not sure if it is an accessory case for a full-size DSLR or what, but it is just the right size for my EPM-1 with the 14-42 lens, has a rubberized waterproof zip like on high-end hard shell jackets, and was only $35. Even has its own rain cover stashed away in a little pocket on the bottom. My Lumix DMC-ZS3 fits in the front pocket on this new case, so I took both cameras out today to shoot the same stuff and compare the photos later. I have the new camera set to capture both JPEG and RAW, and the JPEG images look a bit artificially enhanced color-wise when compared to the RAW. No real obvious dramatic difference in quality between the two cameras in auto mode so far.
