Yes, cryptic at times, but one of the charms of the board. I think he does the Kerouac-style on purpose so people will read his posts several times and really understand what he's saying. Lotta wisdom there.

I miss the "Day in the Life of the Portal Store Cook" posts . . .

Have you ever met the man? Spent time talking to him? If you have, you would understand exactly what he is saying...even if you have to read it twice! smile

I'll share this, not to 'dis' Doug Sr., but as an example of what can become of stuff you post on the internet. I was taking a class in report writing a few years ago and the instructor distributed two examples of poor writing; one of them was a copy of a post made by Doug Sr. on this BB. The instructor called in 'literary vomit'. Sure, this is an informal BB and doesn't demand writing skills on the level of Shakespeare or Tom Clancy, but at least do a quick proof of your posts to get the majority of spellin and punktuashun mistakes corrected before you click on 'Submit'.

Hi I like that !You should hear Earlene scream when she reads some of the post.

I was going to be a Philosophy professer but then them reports. And stuff like Georgian Marxism or Sermon on the Mount , repressive desublimation, and that hard one why?

I always thought the funny marks on the key board was for something, because Jobs left them thier unlike the arrow keys he hated.

Thanks for the thoughts and comments. Doug

I believe "in" should be "it" and the instructor needs to eat some Portal food to overcome his "vomit2d." grin

Boston University had a course in Bob Dylan lyrics. Doug, you have arrived. Well, how does it feel?

I think the problem is that Doug is Joycean, while you prefer Hemingway.

Maybe a kind volunteer will Clancy down his posts for you.

the remarkable, rugged prose stylings of Doug Sr. are

- well worth the price

and

- nothing a wise person should undertake to revise for free

So funny. Surveyors will spend weeks crawling through poison oak and dodging traffic to complete a survey. They will analyze the data, process it, integrate it with prior record data, and prepare beautiful notes, plats, and maps.

Ask the Surveyor to sit down and write a few lines of narrative describing the survey in words that an Engineer or architect would understand and you might as well ask my third grader to do extra homework instead of playing outside!
