As Jim said, it was a wicked pow day up at Mammoth, and the backcountry is all in the red for the moment (especially Tahoe, sheesh!). But as I was driving back down the hill on Saturday, my friend Tom and I couldn't help but notice the storm pouring down Wheeler Crest.

Methinks there may be some slogineering to be had this coming weekend...

Gotta say, the iPhone isn't bad, except in zoom mode. But these were pretty extreme light conditions, so I was happy.

Good to see some white stuff up there, although my skis are still madly hanging on the wall in the gear room...

-L cool

Hi Took a quick trip to Fallon today to get a cow. Noticed two slides on Mammoth and another one just North of Mammoth. Nice day -7 degrees this AM around Toms Place and on the way back 50 over by Benton. Be safe the next few days!! Doug

I promise not to head out until this weekend, Dad... wink

And, Scott, you know me better. I made my own tracks to Sabrina, while bringing two dozen donuts to my friends camped up there.

On cold days like that I try to sleep higher up at the Rock Creek Snow Park. It was only 0 degrees up there at sunrise that day. The Friday before there were caddis, mayflies, stone flies and -mosquitoes- out at the Owens River by the Chalk Bluffs north of Bishop.

Was that Paul or someone with a winter class? They had left for N. lake area on snowshoes when I was on my way down from Sabrina.

MT - I've been lucky enough to see this phenomenon also yrs ago. The sun was in a good place to show the incredibly fast down slope
wind carrying loads of spindrift.

We hung and fought over who got the binoculars for an hour watching from it from miles out by 395.

Think you could enjoy those conditions without an Everest summit suit?
