Saves a few letters by adding the Hi in the subject line.
Mr & Mrs Bear and family would like to Thank you for bringing the care package last weekend.

The pond and Portal proper starting to shape up, still draging branches from the pond.

We are glad to see so many people last weekend in the area doing different climbs and hikes. One traveled the country for a chance to summit the highpoint in the Alabama Hills and sit on the bench from the Highpointer Foundation. Please join this group and if you are thinking about the wealth aquired leave at least a few dollars to the Highpointers Foundation. They told me they didn't need money but keep sending stuff about the club and foundation, So with the education project you will get to sit on the bench with Myles or Amy or Doug Jr and have an unframed 4x6 print! If a SASE and 29.47 included for S&H you can get two prints for the same price and get the lettuce peeler as a gift until supplies run out ( we will move the bench away from the tree since the Blue Jays are adding comments)

Bob R and crew came by several times the last few weeks and some of those climbing people are on the walls yelling advice to the others that may or may not want advice. One group of three had a total of 196 years climbing experience and was still able to grab the sharp end.Trick Myles into hauling the gear to the base of the climb and get the booty back he had removed from the route. One for Old climbers 0 for Myles.

Myle//// scratch that. Amy and Myles working on several new routes these are in a straight line and may see a few seconds and thirds shortly since the routes do not start somewhere east of Lone Pine touch Three Rivers ALL ON THE PORTAL BUTT.

Laura has some sound hints about the conditions in the backcountry. Every day is a new day. You just reach in the bag of tricks and charge on because each day will have tests that require that you are the one that will be forced to deal with the CONDITIONS NOT A WEATHER REPORT OR A STORY.

The new camp host ask when we should call for help if the climbers fail to come down. I said Oh when a member of the group comes in and tells us they left Chuck on the Mountain and someone should do something.

Rick Lovett drove the first load of fine beer up today from his IWV BREWERY, I missed Rick. I was in the office talking about great things and how in a few years we will all be drinking free bubble up and.....I for get some kind of stew.Rainbow Stew!

Sun and snow taking a toll on the hikers. Wear long shirts and pants and a large brim hat and dark sun glasses AND CARRY AND USE sunblock .

Tracie was able to help people out last weekend on the chute section and if you see someone thinking stupid please offer a little help. This will help the S&R people on Mothers day when we will see another group of hikers coming down maybe a little tired or a little late and have trouble on the chute or other sections of the trail.

Cayden and I did a very short hike last weekend. Hit the old trail (1904) found a slab and followed it up and over the waterfall. Big day. I was able to trick Cayden into standing up and friction the slab as we talked about "stuff" by the end of summer we will have him thinking about that dead time in school when he could be out climbing. He already talks about the store as his so just to cook big pancakes 2/3 grade is about all you need. Oh and how to work the cellphone to call the dispatch on Saturday night looking for Chuck.

Earlene sends her best form down south. Will do the last few details before heading up for the season Which means we are hostage until she gets here and we can drift out the backdoor.

Good to be home again !!!!!! 25 years like it was yesterday we took the side trip on the way growing up.Thanks the Portal Crew

Aaaah . . . the WPS is open: bears on the prowl, the aroma of burgers on the grill, and Myles catching a daily (hourly?) ration of crap from Doug. All is right in the world.

Doug and Earlene, a huge congrats on 25 years - you guys are officially an institution!
