This year for Trails Day we plan to focus on the Trailhead area and the pond. So please join in on Saturday June 2 for another fun day , We ordered Shirts and have other things to pass out, we will also have lunch and snacks . I set aside 3 rooms in the Hostel for Saturday night ,one Private and a one that we sleep 6 and another that will sleep 10.
We vwill start about 9 AM but don't worry if you are driving up and get here later we need the help. Thanks Doug

I just got back and saw what you are talking about. I will try to make it. Thanks for the burger and dog, I think my son and I were the last customers for the grill last night. Man it was good!

You know, Doug... every year you've done these "trails Day" events, and every year I've wanted so much to be able to participate in helping to clean and clear this very special mountain that I love...the only thing ever stopping me was the distance. But I think this year I may be able it swing it... and get several of those proverbial birds with one stone! I'm hoping to drive down Friday Evening (Ugh! ...long drive after work), but I could get there by Saturday morning easy, and spend the day happily doing whatever tasks I am given. I do have a family baby shower on Sunday in Valley Center that I would really like to go to.... and then Monday evening I could just skoot on over to Oceanside, recruiting a few family members along the way to join me to hear Jack and Betsy's first lecture of the tour. Now, THAT's a plan and I'm sticking to it!

I don't have any excuse to NOT be there. Considering how much work the FS Crews did for us, we should be willing to clean up the debris that's left behind.
Rosie, that's one heck of a road trip!

Throwing some numbers out:
I think I counted 15 places on the Main Trial where I had to climb over, or under, blowdowns after that Autumn wind storm.
A few more were knocked down by a Spring wind storm.
Now, there are only two on the Old Trail up from the Portal. ALL of the trees on the regular Main Trail have been taken care of.
I heard Ranger Brian Spitek single-handly took care of some large ones at Bighorn Park and near Mirror Lake recently.

I might be able to make this. What does it entail? I have a 15 year old daughter that like to volunteer for things. Is this something she could help with?

Hi Thanks everyone for thinking about helping. If you have a few hours and just want to watch that is fine also. And join the group for lunch. Maybe we can do a slide show later at the Hostel from past trips. Thanks Doug

Hi We have three chainsaws but hard hats gloves and pinch bars if we are going to move the big logs by the trailhead . Brian with the Forest Service would like to clean up the area near the trailhead also. The main effort will be making the branches into piles or onto flat trailers so we can cut the fire danger down. Thanks Doug

Hi Most everything is down so the saws that would help would be for cutting the branches that are down , I think if we have some handsaws it would help , something good for limbs. Thanks Doug

Doug I'm in, I have the jeep to winch with too. I have straps and tree savers and some other stuff we can use.

Two of my brothers and I will be there also. We'll be staying at the Hostel, and will be up at the Portal Saturday at 8:00 for breakfast. Looking forward to seeing everyone!

I will be there if I am not locked up after going postal on insurance adjusters! This may be just what I need right now. Please leave the largest trees for me, I need to vent.

Dave, is this the insurance issue that you had told us about last October?! I don't doubt that you are frustrated (I'm sure that's an understatement).
