I know its not Mt. Whitney, but....

Decided to give it a go on the first day the cables were up. Just beat the weather, made for some fun photos though.......

Beautiful pictures!! The quiet, misty pictures on the top are amazing; the 3rd and 5th are my favorite.

Laine, starting early in the morning will help in avoiding the crowds. We've always done Half Dome as a day hike, and always started well before light. It was amazing how many people we'd pass on our way down that were still heading up in the afternoon. We've all seen pictures where people have been lined up on the cables like a queue for a Disneyland ride, but I've (fortunately) been able to avoid that experience.

Have a great climb!

P.S. Don't forget your gloves. There's usually a stack of discarded gloves at the base of the cables, but God only knows who all used them and if they washed their hands! laugh

Half Dome is on par with MtW. My friends expected to get permits for climbing Whitney but we were denied. However, we lucked out with permits for Half Dome in June. That picture of the cables from the sub dome really showcases the courage that it takes to get to the top.

Awesome photos. First picture is kinda of spooky. Hiking into the mists. I have been up there twice, last time was last year. The Sierra snow finally stopped prior to our hike.
