Having some skill in rock climbing appears to be a good thing when it comes to mountaineering. How lucky am I that I met great folks like Richard and Bob P. one morning at the portal parking lot to hike up the mountaineer's route. Apparently Bob saw something in me that I didn't realize and opened the opportunity for me to test out my skills on Cathedral Peak.

Bob, thanks for being such a great mentor. I strive to improve over these next several months and hopefully these skills will come in handy for my future big climbs (and not so big ones too.)

BTW, Bob is such the climbing animal.. he blew right through two other climbing teams who started an hour before us.. most of it without rope.

I saw surprising stamina for a relative newbie. (I wouldn't have been surprised if I had known you completed an Ironman Triathlon.) I saw determination. I saw willingness to listen and learn.

My Pleasure. I love leading Cathedral Peak. Having a student learn so quickly and then just motor past two other teams made my day.

Cathedral is a high-quality moderate climb. Real climbing animals do much harder routes. For those of you wondering about the "without rope" comment, we were roped the whole time, but I led most of the route without protection. After 50+ times, I know where the hard spots are and aren't.

Carine did a great job. This won't be the last TR from us this summer.

Congratulations Carine, that is a fun route...

BP, still only 50+? I thought you'd be near 100.

Nope. Just three times (all with WPSMB members) since you and I climbed it. The total is only 55.
