Sort of off topic here but Im not sure where else to post this. I have a permit for six spots to hike into the Grand Canyon. Folks that requested I apply for them bagged out on me because they didn't like the dates...have now left me four open spots and out $80. Our entry will be via Bill Hall TH. We are hiking down to Deer Creek. The permit is for 4 nights. The dates are 10/7-10/11. If you're interested, please contact me privately and I'll forward the entire itinerary. My email is usandsenna@yahoo.com. Thanks for any considerations! And if you've hiked this trail...would love to hear some feedbacks as well.

Great trail and good time of year to do it. Road out should be good, not too wet. Are you doing the Thunder River loop? The trail is rugged but easily followed. Surprise canyon is well named. Its south facing and bloody hot, even in October. Most people stash a gallon of water before the descent into Surpise so you'll have it on the way out. I'd love to do that trail again but I'll barely be back from the JMT. People always bag on canyon hikes. It sounds like a good idea at the time and then they realize what hard work it is. I alway get cash up front, then save the no shows as hiker credit for the next year. Have a great hike!

Yeah...If I end up losing my $, I'll just chalk it up to "tuition" and the next time I apply for a group permit, I'll collect up front. I've been trying to contact the BCO to find out about the credit thing. I use to work in the BCO at Rocky Mountain NP and we always refunded $ if enough notice was give. ANYWAY, Ive been in the govt long enuf to understand what's going on, so I accept my mistake. Just wondering can I use that credit for the entrance fee etc? I doubt I'll be back next year...just a long haul from here. I'll probably eat the cost vs spend another $10 just to process a credit I'll never use.
Thanks for the trail info. No we arent doing the loop. Just hiking down to Deer creek to check out the scenery...then back out the way we came in.
