Mt. Whitney Portal Store & Hostel Forums General Mt. Whitney Portal Store Message Board Doug, thanks for the memories.

I've done Whitney four times, twice with my son, once with some friends, and once solo.
My youngest daughter camped out with me two nights during my last trip, at the portal camp grounds, then grandma and grandpa came up and took her down to Lone Pine the night before my last summit.

This is my son, and Doug back in 2008 after his first one day summit.....

I hope one day to retake this pic after Kennedy and I summit together.

Hi Tonight a young lady ask if we have always been here I said no ,Just the last 25 years . Her responce was she is 26 so all her life and every year she stays at the campground and comes into the store. After a day like the last few days you need to look back and ground yourself about why and how we ever got here and hope that along the way it worked.
