Clouds threatened, especially after the scary lightning storm on Friday, but many people made it to the top--including me! Yay!

Can't figure out how to post a photo--but to the guy from Oxnard, yes! I made it to the top!

Congratulations. I was rooting for you. I was concerned when we got rain on Saturday at Whitney Portal. Thanks for the post.

I am a runner, so I kind of always train, but I do more hiking and stairs when I'm planning a hike up Mt. Whitney. I would say that, generally, if you are in shape to run a marathon & easily hike a 10k+ peak at a reasonable clip, you can hike Whitney in a day. It's a bit more civilized to do this hike with an overnight or two on the way, however. So beautiful...more time to enjoy the trail!

Hello,
Me and three friends will be hiking this Tueday (8/21) my question(s) being as neither of us have been higher than San Gorgonio (11,500 feet) is there some type of medication (asprin or IB profin)or other method that you can recommend for us to make it to the top?

We are hiking in one day.

Thanks

I always take aspirin along with ibuprofen during the day. Seems to work well for me and I have done Whitney a few times in 1 day. I have never taken Diomox so don't know about the effects of that. I also camp at portals a few days before and hike to Lone Pine Lake twice befopre I hike and that also helps to get acclimated. I will be hiking Whitney on Wed 8/22!

Good luck to you!
