I backpacked the High Sierra Trail and the John Muir Trail from August 3rd to August 21st. It was quite the experience as the weather did not fully cooperate. I became intimately familiar with Thunderstorms. Here are some photos........you can see more and more of the photos at: http://calicokat.smugmug.com/Hiking/Sierra-Nevada There are Topo Maps of my entire journey to see as well and some videos at a later time.

I am in the process of blogging about the day to day adventure and if anyone is interersted, it is here: http://calicokat-hstjmt2012.blogspot.com/

Those are beautiful pictures, Jim. I love the colors of Precipice Lake. I went from Wolverton to Kaweah Gap one day a couple of years ago. It was horribly windy at Precipice Lake and the water was a deep, dark ominous blue. Your photo makes it look so serene!

I haven't heard of too many people doing the HST and the JMT together. Congratulations and again thank you for sharing those beautiful pics.

I was SO hoping I'd run into you, Jim! Every time I'd see someone with a full-size camera I'd look to see if it was you. I'm sorry that I missed you.

Your pictures are absolutely beautiful!! They were all so stunningly gorgeous... I think my favorite is the sunset in McClure Meadow. I'm always amazed when I see people carrying full-size cameras and wonder that they carry all that weight... but then I see the quality of their pictures and it suddenly doesn't seem like such an extravagance.

Bummer about the thunderstorms for you... your last trip was plagued with them as well, right? Looking forward to seeing the videos.

Rosie -
Your comment about the camera weight makes me smile. I did HST with a compact last year, but had a DSLR for the JMT. I ended up getting a padded camera strap just for the JMT (my poor neck!). Even with it, I was still tempted to make my boyfriend carry my camera at times. wink BTW, I think we ran into you when you were reentering via Kearsarge (about halfway between the JMT and Kearsarge Pass... we were exiting for the time being).
