This summer my son worked at a summer camp in Maine. The previous three summers he had worked at Camp Whitsett above Kernville but this summer for a change of pace he worked at Camp Hinds which is twenty minutes from where my parents live in Southern Maine.
He met a wonderful young Man from Japan who also worked at the camp. Kun is his name. Kun had been on a 90 day camp counselor visa and had to return home to Japan but as planned he then flew back to California as he begins a six month journey around the world.
The start of his trip was a thru hike of the John Muir Trail. He exited at Whitney Portal last Thursday and spent the night at the hostel before travelling by public transportation to Union Station where we picked him up last night.
We are enjoying his visit here in Orange County listening to him tell of his adventures solo on the JMT.
I place him on the Greenline to LAX Monday for a flight to Vancouver. He plans on visting Europe, Turkey, India, and other South Asian countries before going home in January or February.
It is nice sharing someones dream trip and it is heartening to hear that there are still young people taking these adventures.
I ask that all help out young travelers. Your life will be better for doing so and they are also very appreciative of the assistance.
Live the dream and help others to live their dreams.
