Tragic news on Manaslu. A freak accident in the shape of a serac collapse has claimed the lives of many unfortunate climbers. Team 'Altitude Junkies' are safe at BC; report from Phil Crampton (dispatch #16) below. Condolences to the victims, their families and friends. Grateful that Kevin Trieu & team are o.k.

Understandably, 5 members of 'Altitude Junkies' have decided to abort their summit bid after the horrific avalanche on Manaslu. Not surprisingly, Kevin Trieu is going for the summit push with the remaining team members tomorrow... Stay safe and climb hard, Kevin! Dispatch #19.

While on the Outside Online site I learned that Glen Plake was one of the avalanche victims. He survived but he tumbled a long way in his tent. He was fortunate to walk out.

Just looked at the last post. That last pitch to the summit is no joke! Glad to know they have made it back to BC and flying to Katmadu tomorrow.
