I find it ironic that the photo of this kid has him pulling on a quickdraw while the article talks about his free climbing ability.

I'd guess the paper, not the kid, is probably to blame for any inconsistencies in the story.

what route on 1/2 dome is he going to do?

with hans florine babysitting him i'm not sure if this link-up is in the same league as someone like dean potter's, not to be jaded or anything. i think it will be interesting to see...

I guess he will be doing the regular NW face on half dome. It is the easiest and fastest way up.

The USA Today article said: "7:30 p.m.: Begin climbing Half Dome's Regular Northwest Face"

I don't find it ironic at all that they have a picture of the kid pulling on a quickdraw. How do you think most of those speed big-wall climbers do it? They sure as hell don't free climb the whole thing.

I found it ironic because at that point in the article they were talking about his free climbing. I agree that he will be pulling many draws on his ascent. In fact I would be curious as to the details of the climb. Will there be simul climbing? Will the leading be shared or is this kid just going to be jugging behind Hans? If he does his share of leading or if there is much simul-climbing then it is much more impressive. Later-
