I was sorry to hear about his death a few days ago and got to wondering if he ever visited the Portal. I know he did an episode called "Wedding of the Waters" but I don't recall if he visited the Portal in it.

Anyone know if he visited the Portal during its filming or at any other time?

We are very sorry to hear about the news.
My wife and I used to follow his program and visit many places covered by California's Gold. We met him in person at Mexican restaurant in east L.A. many years ago. This restaurant was featured on the program before. We introduced our self and we had a nice visit with him. Then he went into the kitchen and got out the owner and told her that we came all the way Brea to visit this restaurant. We had a wonderful time and a lunch. He was genuine as he was on the program.
He must be very busy making a new video in the Heaven.

We visited a few places featured on Huell's show. Fond memories of the Amboy crater and Mojave Preserve. Kids had a blast. He will be missed.

He was the real deal and genuinely a nice person with great charisma. He did a show on my girlfriend's great aunt many years ago, just because she was 93 y.o. living in the same house she grew up in and still taking care of herself and cooking great swedish meals. We are going to watch the tape Monday night and have share a bottle of champange in memory of Huell and Aunt Gerta.

Cheers Huell for many years of wonderful broadcasting! RIP

They say life is unfair . Losing Huell Howser is a good example of this . I started watching his TV program " Video Log " when I first moved here from England . His programs seemed a good way to learn about California in a friendly and unofficial kind of way .
I really feel like I have lost a friend , who I was somehow never actually ever to meet . I wish him all the best on his very last " Road trip " . Maybe one day we will be able to watch a video of his final journey . Until then , I believe part of his legacy could be for us to maintain a positive outlook on the new things we all discover on our own California Adventures .

Earl, thank you so much for this link. I think this was an example of Huell at his best. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I even posted a link on my fb page.

Thanks again.

Hi He got your e mails, Efforts were made at least three different times I worked on but we could never get to the last step.

As others have remarked the work his show did for California is priceless, his crew was as amazing. On Wedding of the Waters the research was down to the last detail , when the show was filmed a direct tie (family member/ location/ object) was researched found and used. Thanks Doug
