Group hikes are always a fun day. This one supports our Veterans!
http://www.adventure16.com/events.asp?itemid=174&submit=getrecord&recordid=223

I was looking at the "Conditions on Baldy" thread and decided to start a new thread about this event.

I see that Doug is already signed up, Baldy MASTER Shin, and others are planning on participating.

It sounds like a great time for a Great cause.

Anyone up for another "Group Hike"?.

(P.S. I'd love to able to join in on the fun, but I'm stuck in Kentucky)

P.S. Thanks tomi for alerting everyone of the event.

Does anyone know which route the teams will be taking? There are 3 routes which start at Manker Flats - Ski Hut, Register Ridge, and Devil's Backbone via Baldy Notch.

Hiked Baldy on 3/15. Went up the Ski Hut trail and down the Backbone Trail. Both trails are almost snow free and can be done without crampons. We used them on the way up just to shortcut directly up the hill but other stayed on the trail and didn't need them.

Hi,
Tim Medvetz, the heroes project, is back from Aconcagua and ready for Mt. Baldy fund raising hike on 14th of April.
I suggested Doug Sr. to form Team "WPSMB" and make it as a group hike.
I am in.

There is now a team called WPSMB. Please consider signing up at the Heroes web site and joining this great event. Things will go slow and we will all have lots of fun, food and prizes! All for a great cause. Tell your friends and fellow hikers to go to this web site:

http://www.climbforheroes.org

Click Join a Team and search for WPSMB. They will be asked to register (and donate $25 to the Heroes project). Few causes in this world affect all of us but this is one of them. Please help support our veterans and enjoy a darn good hike with friends! If you've already signed up as an individual hiker you can still join the WPSMB team. See you on the 14th!

Below is a sample email from the Climb for Heroes web site that can be used if you want to email friends and family to join the hike. If they can't make it on the 14th they can still donate if they wish.

I am Climbing for Heroes!

Join me in supporting The Heroes Project in my Climb for Heroes on Mt. Baldy this April 14th, 2013. I am raising funds to help wounded warriors climb the world's highest peaks, and find a renewed purpose in their lives. The ability to overcome a mountain mentally, physically, and emotionally has proven to be a huge gift in the healing and livelihood of our vets. I hope that you will support my efforts by making a secure online donation at climbforheroes.org or print a donor form and mail it with a check to The Heroes Project.

pssssst

can our group start earlier than 8?

A secret start and we might even get parking places if we get there before the avalanche of humanity.

Thats a good idea to start early. Those narrow roads and with the "just off the road" parking, Manker will be a zoo in no time.

Those who register with the Climb for Heroes web site get a t-shirt (at least I was asked my t-shirt size when I signed up) plus there will be a caterer providing breakfast and sack lunches and prizes. If you register please join the WPSMB group. More info on the web site. Either way it's going to be a fun spring day on the mountain.

Hi I will drive down after the Alabama Hills Day event on Saturday and will drive to the American Trails Conference Sunday afternoon over in Az. So an early slow climb is what I was going to do . I will honor the Heros as they summit Mt Baldy. Hope to see many on the hike but please pray for the Heroes. Thanks Doug

There will be hikers starting up the mountain at 6am and likely a larger number starting between 7:30-8:00 or so. So no matter when you start you will have company all day on the mountain. Weather looks nice for Sunday.

It's not too late if anyone else wants to join the hike. Or to donate to the WPSMB team or to a team member.

Hi, I just tried to join the team, but the roster said the team was full. I'll still be there though at 6. See ya there.
