Doug or anyone else, what is the status of the road to Horseshoe Meadows? Is Inyo also working to open that road up?

It would be fun to head over Trail Pass into the backcountry, early May.

I asked the rangers last week and it is going to open the last week in April, as for now that gate remains closed at the bottom of the road.

Thanks Amy

Last year I did the Kern River loop in late June, and with the snow conditions pathetic this year, I thought I would go even earlier.

Bicycles work great to head up the road early... If you are feeling spry for an early spring outing without seeing any people..

You can hike in right now using the Cottonwood Creek Trail. It is only 7 miles and about 3.5 hours to the east end of Horseshoe Meadow. The meadows are mostly snow free. Trail Pass can be reached in about 5 hours.

My husband started working on it last week. There is still patchy snow at the campgrounds.
