Bill,
Your sharing of this valuable photo was well timed. Today (April 8) is the birthday of this remarkable person.
Clyde's interesting account of his first ascent of Mt Russell is found on pages 109-111 of "Close Ups of the High Sierras" where it is reprinted from the 1927 Sierra Club Bulletin.
In the latter part of June 1926 he was encamped in a grove of foxtail pines on a branch of Wallace Creek. From this camp he established several first ascents in the area, including Peak 4245 (.5 miles west of the summit of Mt Russell) on June 27 and Trojan Peak on June 26.
If I recall correctly, at one time his signature also could be found on the summit of Peak 4245. Such is no longer the case.
See you up on the Mountain this year.
