Hi This year you may see a different cycle of open days ,in the past after the third week of August trail use would start to drop, the trend now is for use into mid Sept.
But I expect many of those permit days will not pick up all the permits say a group of 6 one if not more will cancel and those will show on the system or as walk in permits.
If you go to
www.recreation.gov and select Mount Whitney.... wilderness permit then select 1 May as start date and 1 Nov as end range.... day permit and overnight... you will see all the open days in two week blocks.
That said it will not tell you what days will be open until someone turns in unused permits and then those permits will go into the system. Hence the walk in permit system will still be an option. Day permits for 1-2 people seem easy to get week days and overnight are always harder.
