I'm planning to spend the night at trail camp. I have a few questions and just cant find an answer on the boards.
1) What advise for setting up tents , need rocks or will stakes work?
2)What about Leaving gear at trail camp, known issues, any advise?

Back in 2001, we used a combination of stakes and rocks to secure my tent at Trail Camp. I'd suggest taking along a few extra stakes and some paracord or other light cord "just in case." We ended up with stakes flat on the ground with rocks piled on top, so having had a few 3' lengths of cord would have come in handy to give you some added pull-out and be able to stack a bigger pile of rocks on the guy lines or tent corners.

As far as gear storage, make sure all "smellables" are out of your tent and in your bear canister AND that the bear canister is well away from the tent. We had no problems with two-footed or four-footed critters. The tent and rainfly were zipped up because of the (correct) expectation of afternoon showers and everything was as we left it when we got back from our summit day.

One other comment...be observant in your selection of a tent site. Several of the tent pads (areas cleared of visible rocks down to sand with rock wind walls build up around them) were dished into the middle and turned into lakes during the overnight rains after our summit day. Fortunately, I was smart enough to pick a spot with a bit of "dome" to the tent area so it drained away from our tent, not into it. Several of our neighbors were not so careful and ended up sleeping in puddles once it started raining. Not my idea of fun!

You shouldn't have any problems pitching your tent. As advised there are plenty of rocks to tie to so a little light line is a good idea. We did have some problems with the Marmots though getting into the tents and taking a few things (socks). You should leave a flap open so they can get in and take a look around or they may eat a hole to get in. They are inquisitive little guys but if they can get in and see that there is nothing to take they'll just leave and look elsewhere. Good luck!

Yeah, I was there and remember when those marmots snuck in our tents that day at Trail Camp and snagged the socks while we went up towards the summit. To this day, there is a marmot that will never take socks again - he is now permanently gustatory and olfactory challenged.
