Hi So When I post light breeze ...... Bring a Jacket.... Over the years we have noticed that most first timers have a limited reference base on this area and will follow weather reports as etched in stone and plan trips on the report.
I didn't bother to look at the weather report today by just watching the sky at sunrise and during the early morning you could read the forcast.
Now a funny story one year weather report says 2" at 8000' some people moved out and others moved the cars to 5000' and 7000' to avoid the snow. 8' later that day and night , snow was over the road closed sign at the bottom of the hill, that car was able to get out the second day .The car parked at the 7000' took about 3 weeks to dig out.
I say use the weather NOAA site but do the search on vapor, storm location and size , I use 50 MPH and start out 2000 miles , this can tell you if the storm will hit us. Where it is coming from and the size. Once a system hits land if coming from the west may drop most moisture before it comes over the mountain if from the south (gulf) we watch the spinoff and these are our heavy downpours July/ Aug and the early heavy snow systems cold air from the North and moisture from the South mixing in our area. These are the Macro views , Then watch the sky.
So when I hear the storm came up fast we didn't expect it........ Thanks 49er for the update.
I used to watch the White Mountain site all the time but seems like each year about this time it would weather out!! I liked hourly updates and the history you could see the trends about when the storm hit by wind direction and temp.
