Well, soooooo...just to clarify that I've got all the plans and options, they are:

PLAN A: igloo-building in the HUGE quantities of fresh snow that will be dumped on the Whitney Portal area any time now;

OR.....

Plan B: We walk up to Lone Pine Lake for a BBQ and picnic AND a swim in the lake smile (I think I might just do it!!);

OR....

Plan C: A saunter up Mt. Whitney with Richard.

I actually think there's also a Plan D: which is pretty much do whatever you want anyway.

Well, personally, I like any of these ideas!!! I guess I'm just going to load my car with just about as much gear as I can fit in and still leave room for Karin (Hmmm... I better leave some room for her gear as well.)

It's going to be fun!!!!!

OK.... now for a "Public Service Announcement" - Dave Kirk is heading a work party in the Alabama Hills this same weekend and is asking for volunteers. Joyce and I are really excited about the opportunity help out... as with Karin (but being aware of her recent surgery on her shoulder). Anyone else who'd like to join us??... maybe on Sunday if Saturday doesn't work???

C'mon... Richard, Dave, and Doug.... Remember what a GREAT team we were in 2012? It was SUCH a great day!!!! If anyone else has not had the pleasure of participating in a work party - Think about it... you are being given the opportunity to "give back" to these beautiful mountains... the beautiful area!!

Hi 17 feet of new fresh power overnight!!! not on Whitney or anywhere near but it could happen. System did not reach this far South we had about 3 sprinkles and some wind , Last night the wind was almost like a Santa Ana very warm.

I think we can find enough snow to do a test build of the Igloo say as before around the level area at the store or where Rockwell and crew built the other one.

We found a new arch/cave area in the Alabama Hills ,could do the Riders of the Purple Sage waterfall hike, Also a trip up to Cerro Gordo these could be on Sunday .

Tracy and Dave have remodeled the first floor of the Hostel so this would be a great chance to see all the things going on.

I will do a few more trips to the Portal this week and update the snow conditions but looks like we had about the last chance for snow this past weekend.

Bring all the camera gear the waterfall in the Portal, the sunsets and clouds/sky are photo ops now. and I found One flower in the Hills the other day so wild "Flower" at the peak of the season.

A repeat of the last full moon hike... you know !!!!!

Love it. I'm in and so is my shovel. I can always ice my shoulder by leaning against the igloo we build.

Hi Tomi,
You guys are more then welcome to go, but it's looking like there's going to be little if any snow for the igloo building.

Doug - GREAT ideas!! ... really excited to meet up with everyone for Saturday's events, and another full moon hike sounds really fun! Karin and I will probably be getting in to Lone Pine Saturday morning.

I do think I'd like to join the work party in the Alabama Hills if it's still happening on Sunday.

Good morning Doug! I've been trying to call the Hostel to make reservations for this weekend, but the calls don't go thru. Karin, Joyce, and I would like a room for Saturday and Sunday nights.

Looking forward to seeing you and Earlene! smile

I read about Cerro Gordo in a guidebook and am really intrigued, so I'd love to go check it out. I've never been to a real ghost town before. I'm open to whatever the group decides. Whatever we do, it will be lots of fun because we'll be together.

Rosie and Karin, I'm so looking forward to "glamping" with you. smile

Take care,

Joyce

"Glamping," I love it! Though I am not sure that sleeping in a real bed in a facility that has walls, a floor, and a ceiling, counts, but I'll take it!

Tracie tells scary ghost stories. This may be a little Halloween in February. Tracie, sorry you have to sit this one out!

Hey Doug... Is the road open all the way to the portal? I'm thinking I'll arrive LP early Sat morning and would hike in to somewhere.... Wondering where I'll be hiking in from! Also really really interested (no subtle hint there, trail bud) of driving up to CG on Sunday.
