First of all, I'd like to say hi to Doug and crew. As for my question, I first searched the database for general parking Q&A, but couldn't find anything that fit my specific situation, so I figured I could post a two-part question to the general forum (hoping Doug has an answer):

1. What are the day use parking hours around the pond/store, and;
2. Are there any vehicle size/length limits in either the day use or overnight parking spots?

The reason I ask is also multi-part:
1. We have a small, 22' Class C RV;
2. As usual, we're planning on taking our annual trip up the 395 to Tuolumne, June, Mono, etc;
3. My son and I have done over-nighters to Whitney, but want to do a dayhike this year;
4. Rather than make a separate trip up from LA to hike (day or overnight) Whitney, I figured we could do a day hike on the way back down south ie the day before we drove home.
5. We of course would spend the night in the campground, but depending the spot we got, it could add up to mile to an already long hike.

Solution: just move the RV to either day use or overnight around 4 or 5am. I have no problem moving the RV on the fly - in fact, do it all the time since we almost never "hook up" - so this wouldn't be an issue.

The only potential hiccups would be if there were length limits eg no vehicles over 20' for either day or overnight, or if rangers/sheriffs get suspicious if a vehicle appears to have stayed overnight in the day use lot (even if it was just parked at 4am).

This is all a moot point if we got a spot just a few hundred yards from the TH, but the campground is pretty long, and I figure the "good" spots will be scarfed up, so I have to plan/assume we'd be down the hill a bit.

Saving up to a mile (1/2 each way) would sure be nice if I could move the RV without any major hassles. Thanx in advance to any answers.

Hi The day use area parking is from 8 AM to 8 PM so you would need to park in the other lots , or along the road , if your trip is in mid July to late August some chance you would need to park along the road say 1000' from the trail head max. The 4 AM is the problem since most day hikers start before 6 AM and they will fill the lots early.

The 22' will fit most of the lots , but make sure you do not block the road/driveways. Law will cite you or tow if the fire trucks can not get around.

The very best condition for parking is after 9PM at the trailhead all the overnite hikers are down and the day hikers are clearing out, and you get the stories from the few that are waiting for the lost and confused .Thanks Doug

Doug, thanx for the great advice. On previous trips, I've parked my regular car in the overnight lot, but wasn't sure if there was a vehicle size/length limit.

Checking it out around 8-9pm the night before is great insight. I'll just stroll up from the campground to see how the parking situation is unfolding.
