Hi No parking for the last three weeks,I noticed tonight several spots opened up .Most are parking down the road on the south side . BADWATER brought up barricades today so as the cars clear they will use those spots between the trail head and the Store .
Parking is not allowed in the picnic area and tickets have been written.This lot is posted 8 AM-8 PM HIKER PARKING starts below this lot.
What seems to be happening is JMT and other long distance hikers are filling the lots for weeks at a time,we worked with a traffic study some Years ago and felt that upwards of 20 percent long term were taking spaces ,this year I would estimate much higher say 45-50 percent.
Plan to struggle to find parking.Your start time is about all day hikers start time so the few spots fill fast. Option is the walk in campsites and grab a spot around 8-9 PM at the trail head.
