Does anyone know if the East Ridge is clear? Particularly the north side below the ridge between the East and West summits. Is it possible to go below the ridge on the north side to the slabs? If there is snow is it passable? Need crampons? Any beta would be greatly appreciated.
I’ve been up Russell 10 times, but not recently. The east ridge should be completely free of snow. It looks really intimidating from Mt. Carillon, but it’s not nearly as hard as it looks. It’s a real classic.
Yes, it is snow-free. If I could figure out how to post photos, I could show you the whole ridge from Saturday---but then that might spoil the magic...
