Thanks, Doug -- I saw this article link, as well:

Let's hope it stays small, and is out soon! See you later this week.

I'm planning to hike from Onion Valley to Whitney starting this weekend. Just curious what the air quality is like in the Whitney zone?

Hi Last night the wind shifted and was blowing North, but this AM no smoke and as always it is hard to tell how much smoke and elevation effect, also the lower areas and closed bowls can be very dense.

This just in re the Horseshoe Fire:

Estimated to be 362 acres and 50% contained, with 349 personnel assigned to this effort. Inciweb reports that "good progress was made today."

Looking forward to continued good news.

Thanks Dave I just read that Sat. 9-12 Inyo will let a limited # of people back in to get cars and stock out but all campgrounds and trails remain closed. CHECK INYO County Sheriffs Facebook site for all the details.

Horseshoe Fire 369 acres
The Horseshoe Fire is estimated to be 369 acres and 95% contained. The fire started August 9, 2016 in the afternoon towards the top of the Horseshoe Meadow Road, just east of the developed recreation campgrounds, near Last Chance Meadow.

The Horseshoe Meadow Road up to Horseshoe Meadow. All campgrounds and trails have also re-opened.
Crews will still be working in the fire area and visitors are asked to please be aware of emergency equipment when travelling on that road. Slow down for your safety as well as the safety of fire crews working in the area.
The fire continues to burn out fuels within the containment lines
The cause of the fire is under investigation but appears to be human caused.
