About 9 PM last night the paving was finished to the Portal , This AM the final layer was started in town and will take 5-7 days to finish the paving operation.

Still delays on the road and you may have several since finishing work requires grinding to smooth the base layer.

OK BRING A JACKET freezing now on the upper elevation 1/4' of ice at Trail Camp night before last and reports of ice at the cables so if you start early morning WATCH FOR BLACK ICE!!!!!A ny time you cross water it may look like water on the rock but it could be ICE.

Gloves/headgear will also be needed or you can use socks as hand cover, and wrap a t-shirt over your head is enough since it will only be cold for a few hours. But have a good wind breaker and a base layer.

Doug: Thanks for the update. I am planning to come down from the HST on 8-23. If they are only working on weekdays, am I correct that the current prediction is that the WP road delay will be over by then? Thanks.

Hi Two windows busted so far this month by pine cones that we know of .So if you can find a space away from the trees park there.

Wind this afternoon so we may be getting some weather system moving around .

This week should tell how much longer the paving will take, after the paving then the edge build up will start , curbs and guardrail.

I watched this for a while a year back. The squirrels throw the pine cones off the trees, and then run down the trees to retrieve the smashed innards. (Sort of like the bear in Yosemite that throws bear canisters off a cliff and then runs down to retrieve the goodies ... letting gravity do all the hard work.)
