Remebering things...

Had a nice chat with the LeConte Station Ranger...after I had fallen in the previous stream...rock rolled and I didn't have my poles set...lucky it was only about 4-6 inches deep...about the same as the Evo Creek crossing.

Met a guy who was yo-yoing the JMT...I gues that's one way around the transportation issue...

Met a NPS Botanist who was at Wanda Lake doing a Site Survey...apparently, they're going to re-route the JMT and she was checking for endangerd plants along the planned route...anybody know anything more about the re-route?

Richard,

Really enjoyed your photo gallery. You covered many miles through trophy locations.

Last year, while heading up from LeConte Canyon to Bishop Pass, I noticed a significant trail reroute in Dusy Basin. The CCC workers told me they were rerouting the trail to nearby higher ground, as the existing trail passed through an extensive march-like area. This year I passed along the "new trail" and peered down on the old muddy trail (which will likely vanish in short order).

Maybe there are similar concerns for the JMT at Wanda Lake. The trail is not easy to follow just below the outlet due to water often flooding this level area. Also, in early season much of the trail hugging the shore just above the outlet is at best muddy. More problematic is when snow lingers there, it which case one must be concerned about ending up in the lake. Possibly, there is a reroute planned in this area.

BTW, I believe that Laura Pilewski (Rob's wife) once worked as a SEKI botanist. By any chance, was the botanist you talked to Laura?

It wasn't Laura. I had a nice conversation with her at Kearsarge Pass last summer...Rob got a promotion to Supervisor and is sitting at a desk now...I've heard a couple of reports that he's missing the Backcountry...

I also figured out the mileage error...my track was showing on the Lamarck Trail (one heck of a gps bounce error) rather than Piute Pass Trail...also why I mis-labeled the last photo...should be Loch Leven...

One of the NPS Trail Crew who passed me said they only had 3 weeks before they were going to be pulled for the season...
