Does the Whitney Portal store sell the small propane canisters for lightweight backpacking stoves such as Primis? I am not talking about the larger Coleman canisters which seem to be everywhere but the backpacking canisters you would normally find at EMS or REI. Since you can't take them on planes anymore I always end up searching for a store that sells them when I am on a trip. If the Portal store doesn't have them, are there any stores in the area that carry them?

Thanks.

The Whitney portal store doesn't carry a full supply of all canister types. The best bet would be to stop at Lone Pine Sporting goods in Lone Pine. I would not, however take the chance. Bishop or some large city like LA would be a better bet if you are driving in (since you can't carry canisters on an airplane - if you are flying)

Depends on where you're flying...if you're coming into Reno, there is an REI not far from the airport.

If you're flying into SFO, San José or Oakland, there should be plenty of backpacking stores around.

I would also check with the sporting goods stores in Mammoth Lakes if you're driving south down 395 from Yosemite. They have a pretty throrough stock.

Actually I am flying into Vegas and driving through Death Valley to Lone Pine. Any good outdoor or sporting goods store along the way?

There is a Copeland Store in Las Vegas pretty close to the airport. I got gas cannister for my Primus 4 years back for a backpacking trip to grand canyon. I forgot the exact location but you could find it on the web.

Lone Pine Sporting goods. Give them a call. This is the post with their email and phone number.

They don't always answer so keep calling.

The Portal Store DOES sell the Primus canisters as does the store in town. I bought one there and I think it was $4.95
