Nothing new, but I managed to get a couple of nice shots. Album <a href=http://members12.clubphoto.com/robert634908/2616237>here</a>.

Also, there are a few shots of the latest in Trail Camp poop management.

Later: It just occurred to me to mention that we drove up on Tuesday morning without permit reservations. Walked in to the ranger station at 8:30 and there were 4 available (we took 3 of them). I was a little surprised; I figured we might have to wait an hour or so for openings.

This keeps my "record" intact: I have never failed to get a walk-in Whitney trail permit, either day or overnight.

Great pics Bob.The weather looked perfect.I wish I could spend as much time up there as you.I'm hoping to grab a 1 day permit for Labor Day weekend sometime but it doesn't look good.Probably have to give it a shot later in the month or October sometime.

Hey Bob....Great pictures! It takes me right back there. We'll be up there next week.It is an awesome hike. Love those 12k sunrises .The little doody house looks temporary. I'm curious about the solar latrine. Do you know if it is to be shut down permanently or is it just down for service? Thanks WS

Gotta wonder what a strong wind would do to the temporary outhouse (or at least the privacy of the person sitting in it)!

Wow! Those pictures were great! Thanks for sharing. I'm going up with a couple of friends on Sept. 11, and hope to make it to the summit. How cold is it at Trail Camp? I want to pack as light as possible. Also, how long does it take to get to the summit from Trail Camp?

Thanks.

bob r,
great pics!!!! (your other photo albums are great also!!) very informative for newbies like me!!
i am in chicago. my first trip to mt. whitney will be labor day weekend (portal campground sat. night, up sun. and down mon.)
i love the 'no tent' concept that you have certainly embraced, do you get good 24-36 hour weather for the mountain somewhere near whitney portal, since my desktop will be 2000 miles away?
also, how many times have you summited whitney now?
