We arrived at the Portal on September 8th for
a day hike on the 9th. I checked in at the store
and inquired about the shower facilites that
we looked forward to using after our hike. What
a disappointment to be informed that someone
had kicked 3 holes in the remodeled shower and
the it was closed for the season.

What exactly is the problem with people these days??

How very disappointing this was to read. My first backpacking adventure was Mt Whitney just 3 weeks ago filled with a lifetime of memories! One of those memories was how much I enjoyed the $5 shower (and would gladly have paid $25 for the same low pressure hot water). It continues to amaze me how people steal things that belong to someone else or damage property or resources like this. It obviously was done by the most simple-minded and stupid people that we have to be around in the world of business and everyday life that we all hope to escape from when we search for a respite like the Mt Whitney hike. I am sorry to hear of the damage done at the shower and will end this post with two comments. 1). Whoever is responsible for this doesn't know how glad they are that I was not present when this happened, and 2) I would be glad to send some money to help repair the facility so others will be able to enjoy what I had the opportunity to enjoy during my visit to Mt Whitney.

I'm wary to leave my car unattended there or my gear unattended in camp. My general consesus over the years is that there are ALOT of people that suck.
