I'm doing the High Sierra Trail this summer from Giant Forest to Whitney Portal. Are there shuttle services that will take us back to the trailhead on the west side? If so, what do they cost?

Not many who will go that far but Wilderhouse Shuttle Service located near Independence will reportly do it. The # is 888.313.0151. I arranged my own transportation when I did the HST but I'd bet it is going to cost a fair amount to get back around. Maybe that is no big deal if you are sharing costs with others. I'd guess $300 miniumum and would be curious to know what you find.

I called Wilderhouse 2/16. They will take 5 people from Whitney Portal to Giant Forest for $550.

$550? Sounds like you're better off walking! :-)

Kletter, you might want to post to see if one of the "West side" climbers (central valley, CA) would want to help you out with the transportation issue. Many of us head over that way on weekends.

We did this hike 2 years ago. Great hike, enjoy.
We used the Wilderhouse shuttle for the beggining of the hike. We left our cars at the Portal and had them drive us to Giant Forest. That way you have a car when you finish and don't have to wait for a ride. I remember paying $80 per person for 6 people. Prices must have gone up. However, they were on time and reliable, at least when we used them.
