My credit card was charged for a dayhike on February 25, but I still haven't received the permit. Has this happened to you?

don't expect to receive the permit immediately. i know that they have been busy. i may be mistaken but i believe that they are not going to send out letters until some time in april. i know that this is frustrating but i really think that you ought to be patient. it seems that you did get a permit and just need to wait to get it in the mail, even if it takes a while.

If I'm not mistaken, once you get something in the mail, even that is not the actual permit; it's only the reservation for the permit. On the day before your entry day, you show up at the Lone Pine ****** Station, show them your mailed reservation, and then they issue you the permit at that time. At least this is the way it worked in the past year or so.

Make that r-a-n-g-e-r in my previous post.

Doug - Is there a reason I can't edit my own post so that I don't have to post twice in order to correct a mistake made in an initial posting? I'm not sure I see the harm in editing your own posts.

When the board was having "posting troublemakers" folks could edit their own post, remove their post entirely and force a thread to keep reappearing at the top. Maybe with the screening of subscribers editing could be re-enabled. But then again, a second post works, I guess.

I still don't see why r.a.n.g.e.r can't be posted except for the included a.n.g.e.r It seems a pretty integral word for dealing with Whitney and the backcountry.

Now that you mention it, I don't doubt that's the reason for locking out self-editing. I remember all too well all that stuff. I don't get "rainjur" (phoenetic) either.
