We have three people on a permit for the main trail for June 16-19 and need a fourth person to join in. We're two girls and a guy.

Are you planning on carpooling or just meeting at W.P.? Have you all done much winter packing? I am interested, just need to know the particulars. Thanks.

We're coming in from the LA area and are planning on carpooling at this point. We haven't done much winter packing and are not positive that we'll summit if conditions are dangerous. We're planning to take a snow travel class before the date to practice using our crampons and ice axes. What's your experience level and where are you from? We're all a group of mid 30s and two of us have climbed Whitney before on a day pass, but it was in late summer with almost no snow in site.

We've got a foursome for 6/16-17 and seem to be in a similar situation regarding experience. We are guys, late 50's early 60's. Kinda antsy 'bout the snow/ice. Willing to give it a shot, but prepared to turn around if it exceeds our capabilities. We are getting mixed signals about ease of use of in-step crampons on the main trail. One experienced person I trust indicates it is slow but do-able, the ice should only be on the switchbacks.

We are planning on acclimating at Mammoth with a few rounds of golf, and a bunch of carbs. (could be skiing there instead).

See you on the trail

I'm from Riverside and I have been climbing/hiking for about 20 years now. I have participated in approx. 15-20 "winter" mountaineering trips and I've lost count of my summer trips. I will be going up the Mountaineers Route on May 12th, but I've never been up the trail, so it would be fun to do. Knowing how to use an ice axe and crampons is very important in winter conditions, so I would suggest a course if you haven't done this before. Let me know if you're still interested in adding me to your trip. Thanks.

Lisa and Aquamaniac, be sure and post a trip report when you get back. I'm going the next weekend and your late info will be very helpful.

Have safe trips. Thanks and good luck.
