Hi, Thought I'd see who else is going to be around that weekend. We're a group of about 10 friends from San Jose, with permits for the nights of 11 and 12 June and thought I'd start a thread for us to introduce ourselves.
Let's hope the melt continues!

Journey well...

Hi Clare,
I have permits for the 10th-12th. I'll be there w/ a group of 6 people. A few of us will be camping @ the whitney portal campsite on the 8th and 9th to get aclimatized. 4 out of the 6 will be coming from Santa Cruz.
I'll be wearing a green osprey pack w/ a tan prana hat.

A friend and I are spending the night at Whitney Portal on the 12th. We have permits for the 13th & 14th.
FYI; Same friend and I hiked Clouds Rest in Yosemite on 5/21. The falls are roaring from the snow melt. It was awesome to see & there's still a lot of snow in the higher elevations.

My wife and I will be there on the 10th~12th. Not sure how high we will go. I made the top in 1999 but the snow has me worried about this time (no crampon experience We are coming up from Simi Valley on the 9th. (Brett and Maureen)

How exciting! My husband, myself and our three teenagers will also be on the main trail June 10th-13th, we also will be at the portal camping and acclimating June 8 & 9th. We are from Murrieta (wine-country area near Temecula & San Diego) We took the snow-travel class in April but I am praying for snow melt so we can safely make it to the top! Please come say hi to us - We can all encourage each other!!! Carol Cuffel

Well, with all of you nice people in the area on these dates, surely somebody has room for one person on his or her permit? My brother is through-hiking the PCT, and our plan was for me to fly down (from Seattle) and meet him to climb Whitney's East Buttress. But I couldn't reserve a permit because I had to wait and see when he would get there first. His PCT permit covers him for this area, I think. Now that we know when he'll be in the Lone Pine area, I had hoped to fly down to LA on June 10 and head into the backcountry to hike and climb on June 11, 12, and 13, then fly out the 14th. But of course all overnight permits are full. So if anybody has a space they would be willing to make available to a friendly Washington climber, I would be much obliged! I could make it up to you when you come to climb or hike in the North Cascades! Come stay at the organic farm I work on, just south of Highway 20 (which runs through the middle of the national park).
thanks,

We have large group (8 or more) going up June 10, 11, 12 and we'll be car-camping at the portal Friday night, make it as high as we can Saturday, summit and all the way back out on Sunday. We're expecting all the snow to be gone and nice warm temperatures so we can roast our marshmellows next to the fire without getting too cold.
Ok, it was all true except the last sentence. ;-) See you all up there.
PS. Are there rules about snowball fights in National Parks?

Well we'll be camping at the portal Thursday night (9th), hiking up to Upper Boy Scout or Iceberg Lake on Friday, then summiting (2 via Mountaineers route, and 3 via East Face if it is in shape) on Saturday (hopefully) and hiking out on Sunday.
